Dua Lipa has always shared a special bond with Elton John, and that connection was beautifully showcased during a live performance of “Cold Heart” (PNAU Remix) at the Royal Albert Hall. In an exclusive cover story for Billboard U.K. on December 16, the 29-year-old pop sensation opened up about her iconic TV special, An Evening with Dua Lipa, and the unforgettable night she shared the stage with the legendary Elton John.
Lipa recalled the experience as “unlike anything else” in her career. “The orchestral arrangements truly moved me,” she shared, visibly impacted by the power of the music. “It made me fall in love with music all over again,” she added, reflecting on the emotional depth of the performance. The event marked a significant moment in both artists’ careers, where they combined their distinctive styles in a venue that’s been a hallmark of musical excellence for decades.
When talking about her performance of “Cold Heart” with Elton, Lipa explained the thought behind inviting him. “It was such a chic and elegant night, so of course, I needed my most fabulous friend to join me,” she said with a smile. “He immediately said yes.” Known for his unwavering loyalty to his friends, Elton didn’t hesitate to step in for the performance. “One thing about Elton is that he always shows up for his friends,” Lipa continued. “He’s been so supportive, always lending a helping hand when needed.”
Reflecting on their collaboration, Elton John expressed high praise for Lipa’s talent, stating earlier this year that she hardly needed any guidance during their work together on “Cold Heart.” “She’s so grounded and so in touch with what’s happening in music. She didn’t really need advice from me,” John said. “She’s a delight to work with.”
In the Billboard interview, Lipa also addressed the disappointment of not receiving a Grammy nomination for her 2024 album, Radical Optimism, despite a string of nominations in previous years. “I’m really proud of the album,” she said. “It’s been such a rewarding journey performing it live and achieving things I thought were out of reach. It’s been a dream come true.” Although Lipa admitted it “would have been nice” to be recognized at the Grammys, especially as a woman, she expressed her admiration for the female artists nominated in 2025, celebrating their achievements.
