Billie Eilish Reveals Behind-The-Scenes Moment From “Birds Of A Feather” With Finneas

Billie Eilish is once again showcasing the undeniable creative chemistry between her and her brother, Finneas O’Connell. On Wednesday, December 11, the 22-year-old singer shared a rare behind-the-scenes look at the early stages of one of her biggest hits, “Birds of a Feather.” In an Instagram Reel, Eilish and her 27-year-old brother, who co-writes and produces most of her music, are seen brainstorming the song’s lyrics during its initial creation.

“February 16th, 2023, lil video of the beginnings of ‘Birds of a Feather’ ,” Eilish wrote in the caption, giving fans a glimpse of the sibling duo at work.

In the video, the pair can be seen discussing the chorus, which would eventually evolve into the heartfelt lyrics: “Birds of a feather, we should stick together, I know (‘Til the day that I die) / I said I’d never think I wasn’t better alone (‘Til the light leaves my eyes) / Can’t change the weather, might not be forever (‘Til the day that I die) But if it’s forever, it’s even better.”

“I love that idea,” Eilish says as she and Finneas play around with the melody and lyrical direction. Finneas then shares his vision for how the song should be sung, demonstrating the deep creative bond they share.

“Birds of a Feather” is featured on Eilish’s latest album Hit Me Hard and Soft, which dropped in May 2023. In the wake of the album’s release, Eilish shared an emotional message on Instagram about the project, which she describes as a labor of love. “Dude, HIT ME HARD AND SOFT my third album is f—— out now I don’t even know what to SAYY…,” she wrote, expressing her excitement and pride in the work she and Finneas put into it.

She added, “@finneas and I put so much into this album and have never ever ever loved something more. We hope you enjoy it so much and I’ll see you on the other side EEEEEEEEEEEEEK HMHAS OUT NOW EVERYWHERE LOVE YOU ALL TO DEAAAAATH!!!!”

The album has been a monumental success, earning Eilish seven Grammy nominations for the 2025 awards, including nods for Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Record of the Year.
