Sabrina Carpenter’s holiday special A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter has become the ultimate festive treat for fans — and the magic hits a high point with a perfect duet featuring pop sensation Chappell Roan.
Released on Netflix on December 6, the special combines classic holiday jingles with Carpenter’s chart-topping hits. One of the standout moments comes when Roan, 26, joins Carpenter, 25, for a sultry rendition of Wham!’s 1984 Christmas classic Last Christmas. The pair, dressed in coordinating green velvet dresses and white furs, bring the iconic song to life on a set designed to look like the aftermath of a wild house party.
In an exclusive interview with Yahoo! Entertainment, A Nonsense Christmas set designer Jason Sherwood shared the creative process behind the performance. “We wanted to capture the essence of the moment,” he said. “Should it be a big stage with grand performances? No, Sabrina and Chappell wanted something more laid-back, more personal.”
The idea of the set being the “end of a party” became the vision, with the duo performing in a room that looks like it’s just been through an epic night. Sherwood explained how the original pristine decor was “trashed” to reflect a vibe somewhere between Euphoria and a wild ’80s prom scene. “It’s fun, it’s carefree — it’s a nice intimate moment,” he continued. “It’s my favorite part of the show.”
Beyond the standout duet, the special also features appearances from stars like Quinta Brunson, Cara Delevingne, Megan Stalter, and Sean Astin.
Roan has spoken fondly of her friendship with Carpenter, acknowledging the pressures of their swift rise to fame. In an interview with Rolling Stone earlier this year, Roan opened up about their shared struggles: “We’re both going through something so f—ing hard,” she said. “It was comforting to know someone else feels the same way.”
For fans looking to catch the perfect holiday duet, A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter is now streaming on Netflix — and it’s a Christmas moment you won’t want to miss.
