Amy Adams is no stranger to playing iconic characters, but there’s one role she would take on for a truly down-to-earth reason — and it involves none other than Taylor Swift.
On the Dec. 3 episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the Nightbitch star responded to a viral internet campaign that suggested she should play Taylor Swift’s trusted publicist, Tree Paine, in a biopic.
Adams, 50, responded with an enthusiastic, “Uh, that would be amazing!” showing her immediate interest in the idea.
While some may speculate that the red-haired actresses’ similar looks could be the driving force behind the suggestion, Adams’ reason for wanting to take on this role was far more relatable. “That would be so fun,” she added, revealing that her main motivation would be the chance to get closer to Swift herself. “If it got me closer to Taylor, then that would be fun,” Adams confessed with a smile, capturing the hearts of fans everywhere.
Amy also shared a hilarious and heartwarming anecdote about how she became a full-fledged Swiftie — and how she’s embracing it at the age of 50. While the Enchanted actress admitted that she’d always admired Taylor Swift’s music, it wasn’t until she attended Swift’s Eras Tour that Adams truly transformed into a die-hard fan. “I’m a Swiftie at 50, so I’m like a shifty 50 Swiftie, and I’m like ‘Isn’t that nifty?’” she said, laughing.
Her daughter, 14-year-old Aviana Olea Le Gallo, however, didn’t seem as thrilled about her mom’s newfound obsession with Swift. Adams shared that her daughter often says, “Ooh, I hate this for you,” which only added to the charm of Adams’ hilarious embrace of her “Shifty” new identity. “Now I’m like, ‘I’ll take all the friendship bracelets!’” Adams quipped.
Amy’s daughter made her red carpet debut at the Nightbitch premiere earlier this year, showing just how much Adams values her family while balancing a bustling career.
Speaking of family, Amy opened up about her journey as a mother, especially in relation to her new role in Nightbitch, which deals with themes of motherhood, identity, and self-discovery. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, the actress discussed how her 14-year-old daughter has not only shaped her life but also inspired the way she approaches her acting career. “Parts of it I’m excited to share with her,” Adams said, referencing the film, “but being her mom, I’m a little more protective of certain aspects of the filmmaking.”
Adams continued, “What I want her to know about my experience of motherhood is how much she’s enriched my life and made me the woman that I am today.” It’s clear that Adams sees her daughter as her greatest source of inspiration, and she’s eager to share that with her on the big screen.
At the Nightbitch screening in New York, Adams expressed her gratitude for the experience of working on the film and being able to celebrate with her family. “I tell her that all the time, but it’s true and I’m glad that she’s here tonight to get to celebrate with me.”
As if the candid anecdotes about motherhood and fandom weren’t enough, Adams also revealed some behind-the-scenes details about her Nightbitch character that left fans both shocked and impressed. The actress, known for her graceful appearance, took a risk by forgoing the usual grooming standards for a truly authentic portrayal in the film. “I tell you, I ditched the tweezers,” Adams joked. “I let my chin hairs grow out for the role. It was like, ‘Why not? Let it grow like I’m a catfish!’”
Her commitment to realism shows just how far Adams is willing to go for a role, and it adds an extra layer of charm to her already endearing personality. Fans of both Adams and Nightbitch are in for a treat when the film hits theaters on Dec. 6.
