Michael Bublé is proving to be more than just a coach on The Voice — he’s a true mentor, offering unwavering support and emotional guidance to his contestants. After the first live show on December 2, members of Team Bublé, including Sofronio Vasquez, opened up about the profound impact the Grammy-winning artist has had on their journey. His support was so powerful that it brought Vasquez to tears following his stirring performance of Elvis Presley’s “If I Can Dream.”
In a heartfelt moment backstage, Bublé, 49, shared some deeply personal words with Vasquez. “Nobody in the whole universe besides you and your family knows what you’re going through. I know we talk,” he said, reflecting on the singer’s emotional journey. “Through all of this adversity, you walk out here tonight when it probably matters more than anything in your whole career, and you take the brass ring. I’m just so happy for you.”
Vasquez, who moved to the U.S. from the Philippines to pursue his music dreams, was visibly touched by Bublé’s words. Despite holding back tears, he shared that his coach’s authenticity has been a lifeline for him. “Michael is so genuine, and that makes me feel at home, even if I’m super far away from home,” he said. “What he said earlier really hit me. It was bullseye.”
Bublé’s support has extended beyond just the live shows. In the days leading up to the performances, he took the time to personally check in on his contestants. “He reached out asking, ‘Hey, are you okay? Are you prepared for tomorrow? Do you want some food?’ He’s just so genuine. He loves us,” Vasquez revealed, highlighting Bublé’s caring approach.
Shye, who delivered an emotional rendition of Brandi Carlile’s “The Joke,” also shared his admiration for Bublé’s coaching style. He described him as “fantastic” and noted how personable he is. “Even though I get that same sense of support from the other coaches, Michael communicates with us the most. He’s always there to hold your hand,” Shye explained.
Before the live shows, Bublé made it a point to connect with his team individually, ensuring they were ready and confident. “I never knew I’d like a job so much,” Bublé told PEOPLE in a recent interview. “I promised my artists that if they chose me, I’d be there for them, guide them, and advocate for them. And I’ve done that.”
Bublé’s belief in his team’s talent is unwavering. “My artists, Shye and Sofronio, have worked their butts off. They deserve it. They are incredibly talented, and I believe they’re stars in the making, with or without this show,” he said with pride.
As the competition heats up, Bublé’s coaching continues to shine through. His heartfelt mentorship is proving to be a key ingredient for his team’s success on The Voice, and it’s clear that his influence goes far beyond just musical guidance — it’s about helping his artists grow and thrive as individuals.
