Tim Dillon, known for his comedic insights, has not held back his criticism of ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’, the much-anticipated sequel to the 2019 blockbuster. During a recent appearance on *The Joe Rogan Experience* podcast on November 6, Dillon, who plays a guard at Arkham Asylum in the film, labeled it “the worst film ever made,” expressing his disappointment with the project.
Despite the original *Joker* winning two Academy Awards and grossing over $1 billion worldwide, its sequel has struggled at the box office, earning a mere $204 million globally since its release on October 4. Dillon reflected on the film’s troubled production, noting that discussions among cast members indicated a lack of confidence in the project. “We would sit there in our security outfits and hear this crap and I’d go, ‘What the f— is this?’ They’d say, ‘This is going to bomb, man,'” he recounted.
Dillon criticized the film’s shift to a musical format, which he found jarring. “They have Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga tap dancing to a point where it’s insane,” he remarked. He also pointed out that the sequel seemed to lack a coherent plot, saying, “What is the plot? Is there a plot? I don’t know; I think he falls in love with her in prison?”
The film currently holds a disappointing 32% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 349 reviews. Dillon’s sentiments reflect broader criticisms of the film’s direction and execution. Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav acknowledged the inconsistent performance of their films, stating that they need to deliver more consistent results following *Joker 2*’s underwhelming reception.
While Dillon’s harsh critique has drawn attention, some industry figures have defended the film. Quentin Tarantino praised Joaquin Phoenix’s performance as one of the best he’s ever seen, suggesting that while it may not resonate with everyone, it has its merits.
Tim Dillon’s candid remarks about ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’highlight the stark contrast between audience expectations and the film’s execution. As discussions about its quality continue, it remains to be seen how this sequel will be remembered in comparison to its predecessor.
