Flavor Flav, the iconic rapper known for his energetic personality, recently opened up about his lifelong commitment to freshness in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE. The 65-year-old star shared that he has been wearing Old Spice cologne since fourth grade, a scent that has become synonymous with his identity.
“Everybody should want to smell fresh from their underarms all the way down to their toes,” Flav emphasized. He fondly recalled how his father always kept Old Spice in the family bathroom, making it his go-to fragrance during his school days.
To ensure he “comes on the scene fresh and clean,” Flav insists on the importance of showering regularly. “Hey, after every hour, nothing wrong with taking a shower,” he joked. While he acknowledges that showering multiple times a day might be excessive, he admits it’s justified if there’s a “good reason.”
Currently, Flavor Flav is promoting Old Spice’s Total Body Deodorant as part of a new partnership. In a recent Instagram video featuring fellow personalities Kay Adams and Spice Adams, he celebrated his love for the product and even expressed his loyalty to his favorite NFL team, the Detroit Lions.
“It was around before I came into existence, and I think it’s going to be around well after I stop existing. Physically, I mean,” he said, praising the deodorant’s lasting power.
True to his unique style, Flav sported an Old Spice-themed necklace during the promotion, featuring a red clock on a gold chain emblazoned with the brand’s logo and slogan, “Lasting Freshness.”
While he’s unsure of the exact number, Flav playfully remarked that he owns “a bunch” of clocks, which are scattered around his home, in bags, and even at his family members’ residences.
In addition to his collection, he enjoys crafting personalized clocks for fellow celebrities, including Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, and Olympic gymnast Jordan Chiles, sharing his passion for timepieces with others.
