Double Unmasking Shakes Up The Masked Singer Season 12

by Coco

On Wednesday night, The Masked Singer season 12 delivered its first double unmasking on the “Soundtrack of My Life” theme, featuring Buffalos, Ship, and Woodpecker battling for a coveted spot in the quarterfinals.

The episode kicked off with a lively group performance of Panic! At The Disco’s “High Hopes.” With only one contestant allowed to move forward, host Nick Cannon brought back the iconic Ding Dong Keep It On bell, offering judges Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Rita Ora, and Robin Thicke the chance to save a contestant later in the season.

Ship Sets Sail with a Moving Performance

First up was Ship, whose clue package hinted at humble beginnings and hinted at a major career breakthrough in 1998. With a heartfelt rendition of Patti Smith Group’s “Because the Night,” Ship earned high praise from Thicke, who called it her best performance. Ship’s time capsule clue, signed by LeAnn Rimes, further deepened the mystery around her identity, with guesses ranging from Alanis Morissette to Paula Cole.

Woodpecker Takes Flight with Family-Filled Clues

Next, Woodpecker took the stage with a tribute to the strong women in her family, revealing how her great-grandmother introduced her to jazz and Ray Charles. Her clue package included hints like a globe and Regina Hall, sparking guesses from the judges that included Tatyana Ali and Quinta Brunson. After singing Corinne Bailey Rae’s “Put Your Records On,” Woodpecker captured the audience’s hearts with her emotional dedication to her grandmother.

Buffalos Deliver a Heartfelt Homage to a Fallen Mentor

The trio Buffalos rounded out the night with The Verve’s “Bittersweet Symphony,” paying tribute to a mentor they described as a “real MacGyver.” Their clues—a halftime T-shirt, umbrella, and Dead End sign—had the judges speculating if the group could be Boyz II Men or Bone Thugs-N-Harmony.

The Unmasking: Two Surprising Reveals

After the audience and judges voted, Woodpecker was the first to unmask, revealing actress Marsai Martin beneath the elaborate costume. Buffalos and Ship then competed in a Battle Royale, each giving a powerful rendition of Fleetwood Mac’s “Go Your Own Way.” Ultimately, Buffalos won the quarterfinal spot, leaving Ship to unmask as Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Paula Cole.

The Masked Singer continues to surprise with unexpected reveals and captivating performances, keeping fans guessing at every turn.
