Chris Pine is stepping up his efforts to find loving homes for two dogs he rescued just hours before they were scheduled for euthanasia. The actor and director is currently fostering Max, a 2-year-old Shepherd/Husky mix, and Jack, a 3-year-old Mastiff mix, both of whom are in need of permanent families.
Last year, Pine intervened to save these canines from being euthanized, demonstrating his commitment to animal welfare. Since their rescue, he has facilitated their recovery through multiple surgeries and extensive training, preparing them for adoption.
Partnering with The Animal Rescue Mission in Los Angeles, Pine is on a mission to connect with potential adopters. He emphasizes the urgency of the situation, stating, “These two dogs … they’re still waiting for homes. I have two gorgeous, wonderful loving dogs that need a home.” His appeal comes amidst a troubling decline in adoption rates across the nation.
Pine, who himself is a dog parent to two rescue dogs, expressed concern over the escalating shelter crisis in Los Angeles. “We have such a problem with adoption here; it’s really horrifying. We need to get all the dogs off the streets that we can,” he added.
According to Pets Global, an organization supporting the adoption efforts, Jack and Max are among over 23,000 dogs that have entered the Los Angeles County shelter system since July of last year. Alarmingly, nearly 20% of these dogs have been euthanized, with many more at risk of facing the same fate.
“Our shelter dog crisis is worse than ever, especially for large dogs,” stated Shira Scott Astrof, founder of The Animal Rescue Mission. She highlighted the importance of advocates like Pine in raising awareness for pet adoption, which can save countless lives.
To incentivize adoption, Pets Global is offering a year’s supply of premium Zignature dog food for those who choose to adopt Jack or Max. Ellie Mosser, the community relations specialist at Pets Global, expressed hope that this initiative will encourage prospective adopters to take the plunge, saying, “We know these are truly special dogs.”
Both dogs are reported to be friendly with children and other pets, making them ideal companions. The organizations aim to find Jack and Max their forever homes by October 16, marking one year since their rescue. Pine’s heartfelt appeal underscores the urgent need for responsible pet adoption and the difference it can make in the lives of animals in need.
