Ann Wilson of Heart Declares ‘The Worst Is Over’ After Cancer Treatment: ‘Chemo Is No Joke’

Ann Wilson, the legendary lead singer of Heart, has shared an encouraging update on her health as she prepares for a return to the stage following her battle with cancer.

The 74-year-old rocker announced she has successfully completed chemotherapy treatment, months after revealing her diagnosis and decision to take a break from performing. In a heartfelt message posted to social media on September 25, Wilson expressed gratitude for her recovery and discussed the challenges she faced during treatment.

“I know lots of you have been wondering how I’ve been doing,” Wilson said in a voice-recorded statement. “So I thought it’d be best if you heard this straight from me. I’m doing absolutely fine now, but it’s been, to put it mildly, a lot. Chemo is no joke. It takes a lot out of a person.”

Wilson also highlighted the emotional strain of waiting for test results after her treatment. “Then there’s that two weeks of waiting around for test results, a form of mental torture,” she explained. Fortunately, the results were positive. “Luckily for me, when the results finally came, they were the good kind!”

With chemotherapy now behind her, Wilson announced her readiness to resume her career. “I’m so excited to share with you that I’m now finished with chemo and I’m officially ready to get ready for the tour in 2025! There’s maintenance going forward, but I’m told the side effects are much less severe. The worst is over, and I’m thankful for the efficacy of this poison — but it’s more than welcome to get the f— out of my body now.”

The “Barracuda” singer also expressed immense gratitude for the support she received from fans during her difficult journey and emphasized the importance of early detection. “My story has a happy ending due in part to early detection. My advice? Get checked regularly. I love you all, and I’ll see you very, very soon. There’s much to celebrate.”

Wilson first announced her cancer diagnosis in July, revealing that she had recently undergone surgery and would take the remainder of the year off to undergo preventative chemotherapy. The news meant that Heart, the iconic band she leads with her sister Nancy Wilson, had to reschedule their planned tour dates for 2025.

Heart, inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013, last performed in April and May 2023. The band celebrated 50 years together earlier this year, having reunited in 2019 after a three-year hiatus.

Reflecting on her long and storied career, Wilson previously told PEOPLE in 2022, “Back when I started, I didn’t even believe I’d live to be 30. In your early 20s, you just go, ‘I’ll never get old.’ I never dreamed it would go on 50 years. For me, it’s the bomb. When it’s all going right, there’s nothing like it.”

With her health on the mend, Wilson is looking ahead to a brighter future and a highly anticipated tour that fans are eager to witness.
