Actress Niecy Nash-Betts is gearing up to catch her friend Travis Kelce in action as he plays for the Kansas City Chiefs, following their collaboration in the new thriller series Grotesquerie. Nash-Betts shared her enthusiasm with PEOPLE, highlighting the personal connection she now feels with the tight end.
“I’m planning to see him play when he comes to town,” Nash-Betts said, referring to her wife Jessica Betts joining her for the game. “I’ve watched him in the Super Bowl before, but we didn’t know each other then.”
The dynamic has changed for Nash-Betts, who remarked, “Now it’s different. At first, it was just the game; now it’s like, ‘Oh, there’s my friend Travis. Hey, Travis!’ It’s personal now.”
Kelce’s appearance on set of Grotesquerie made a notable impression on Nash-Betts. She described the atmosphere as transformed, with crew members expressing excitement over the NFL star’s presence. “All the guys on set were fangirling,” she recalled with amusement.
Nash-Betts praised Kelce’s professionalism and approachability during filming, stating, “He was lovely to have on set—very charming and fun. He was always prepared and open to feedback.” She appreciated his willingness to learn and adapt, noting that he never acted like he knew it all.
Although Kelce could not attend the show’s premiere in New York City on September 23 due to a game against the Atlanta Falcons, his mother, Donna Kelce, was present to support him. She shared insights about Kelce’s aspirations in acting, saying, “I think this is something he’s always had in the back of his mind. He thought, ‘If I get an opportunity, I would like to try [acting].’”
As Nash-Betts anticipates watching Kelce on the field, fans can look forward to seeing the tight end excel both in sports and on screen.
