Rapper and producer 50 Cent is developing a new documentary for Netflix that delves into the abuse allegations against Sean “Diddy” Combs. The project, confirmed on Wednesday, September 25, was announced by 50 Cent’s representative, adding another chapter to his ongoing public feud with the hip-hop mogul.
“This is a story with significant human impact. It is a complex narrative spanning decades, not just the headlines or clips seen so far,” said 50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, in a statement. Jackson’s G-Unit Film & Television will helm the project alongside director Alexandria Stapleton’s House of Nonfiction. The duo emphasized their commitment to presenting “authentic and nuanced perspectives” on the issue.
The documentary, which Netflix commissioned earlier this year, does not yet have a confirmed release date. “While the allegations are disturbing, we urge all to remember that Sean Combs’ story is not the full story of hip-hop and its culture. We aim to ensure that individual actions do not overshadow the culture’s broader contributions,” the statement added.
Jackson, 49, has been vocal in his criticism of Combs, 54, for years, and this upcoming documentary follows that pattern. In July, Jackson spoke candidly in a Hollywood Reporter interview about why he has distanced himself from Combs and the infamous parties at the center of a federal investigation into Combs’ activities.
“I’ve been very vocal about not going to Puffy’s parties and doing things like that,” Jackson said, referencing Combs’ former moniker. He recounted a strange past interaction where Combs allegedly invited him to go shopping together, which Jackson found unsettling. “I thought that was the weirdest thing in the world… I wasn’t comfortable around him.”
Jackson has also used social media to jab at Combs, most recently mocking him in a September 25 tweet that included a photo captioned “Coming soon! LOL,” alongside an image of “Diddy Oil.” This is presumably a reference to the “1,000 bottles of baby oil and lubricant” seized by authorities during raids on Combs’ properties earlier this year.
Combs, who was arrested in Manhattan before his indictment on September 17, faces serious charges, including sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in prostitution. Authorities have linked these charges to what prosecutors have described as “freak offs,” sex parties allegedly hosted by Combs at his Los Angeles and Miami residences.
Currently being held at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center, Combs has been denied bail twice and is awaiting trial, with his next court appearance scheduled for early October.
This documentary marks another significant step in 50 Cent’s growing career as a producer, following his work on the popular Power series. It also underscores his willingness to confront controversial figures in the hip-hop world, especially those he has openly clashed with.
