Sean “Diddy” Combs is not receiving any special privileges as he awaits trial at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC), according to a source familiar with the situation.
The 54-year-old rapper was arrested on September 16 by Homeland Security Investigations agents, just one day before being indicted on multiple serious charges, including sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation for prostitution. Combs pleaded not guilty and has been denied bail on two occasions.
“He is being treated like any other detainee awaiting trial,” the source told PEOPLE. “As with all public figures in his position, he was placed on suicide watch upon admission to the facility as a precaution.” The source also noted that Combs is “very concerned about his kids and their well-being,” especially as four of his seven children currently have neither parent available due to his incarceration.
Combs’ legal representatives, Marc Agnifilo and Teny R. Geragos, submitted a bail proposal that was rejected by two Manhattan judges. They described the conditions at MDC as “horrific” and not suitable for pre-trial detention.
Prosecutors allege that Combs organized “freak offs,” which they claim involved orchestrated sexual performances with male sex workers and women who were allegedly coerced into participating. In March, federal authorities conducted raids on his homes in Miami and Los Angeles.
The charges against Combs follow several lawsuits filed over the past year concerning allegations of sexual abuse, including a notable case from his former girlfriend, singer Cassie, who accused him of rape during their decade-long relationship. That lawsuit was settled shortly after being filed. Combs has denied all allegations against him.
Scheduled to return to court in early October, Combs maintains his innocence, with his lawyers stating that he is “strong, healthy, and focused on his defense.” They emphasized his commitment to fighting the case and his confidence in his legal team and the truth.
