Brie Garcia has offered insights into her sister Nikki’s well-being as she navigates a challenging period following her recent divorce from Artem Chigvintsev.
During a recent episode of The Nikki & Brie Show, Brie shared that Nikki was absent from the podcast due to personal matters. This announcement comes in the wake of Chigvintsev’s arrest on August 29, where he was detained on suspicion of domestic violence.
“Nikki isn’t here because, as you all know, she’s going through something personal in her life,” Brie explained. “And she just asks for her privacy for her and her family, so we’re going to give that.” She reassured listeners that Nikki appreciates the outpouring of love and support she has received during this difficult time. “But she sees all the support and love,” Brie added. “And we’re always grateful for all of your love and support, so thank you all for that.”
Brie indicated that Nikki plans to return to the podcast next week. This update comes shortly after the sisters were spotted together shopping for pumpkins in Napa Valley, California, on September 20, where Nikki was notably not wearing her wedding ring—just a week after filing for divorce from Chigvintsev, a former contestant on Dancing with the Stars.
Nikki filed for divorce on September 11, nearly two weeks after Chigvintsev, 42, was arrested for corporal injury to a spouse in Napa Valley. According to documents obtained by PEOPLE, he was booked at the Napa County Jail and released on a $25,000 bail within an hour. While it has not been officially confirmed, it is presumed that Nikki is the spouse referenced in the arrest.
A representative for Nikki confirmed to PEOPLE that she is seeking privacy for herself and her family during this tumultuous time. In her divorce petition, she requested sole legal and physical custody of their four-year-old son, Matteo, while allowing Chigvintsev visitation rights. Nikki also asked the court to terminate spousal support for both parties.
In a response filed two days later, Chigvintsev sought joint legal and physical custody of Matteo and requested spousal support in addition to covering his attorney fees. Chigvintsev’s attorney, Ilona Antonyan, stated at the time, “Mr. Chigvintsev will not comment on any pending proceedings. The parties are focused on co-parenting and working together for the best interests of their son.”
