Julianne Hough recently opened up about a surprisingly positive encounter with her ex-husband, Brooks Laich, and his girlfriend, Katrín Tanja Davíðsdóttir, while attending a wedding. The moment, Hough revealed, helped her embrace the fullness of life and gain a new perspective on relationships and personal growth.
In an exclusive clip from The Jamie Kern Lima Show podcast, the Dancing with the Stars host candidly discussed her feelings about the experience, noting how it showcased her emotional progress since her split from Laich. “It was so beautiful,” Hough, 36, said. “I feel like I’m just beginning this chapter of my life with wisdom, insight, compassion, and empathy. It’s been a journey from wondering, ‘Will this ever end?’ to realizing I have the power to create the life of my dreams.”
Hough emphasized the importance of accepting both the highs and lows of life, acknowledging that joy and sorrow are intertwined. “You feel joy because you’ve felt sorrow,” she explained. “We’re here to experience the fullness of life, not perfection. I don’t want a perfect life—I want a full, beautiful, connected life.”
Hough and Laich, a former NHL player, began dating in 2013 and were married in a scenic outdoor ceremony at Lake Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, in 2017. After nearly three years of marriage, they announced their separation in May 2020. Hough officially filed for divorce later that year, and the process was finalized in June 2022.
Since their split, Laich, 41, has been in a relationship with CrossFit athlete Katrín Tanja Davíðsdóttir, and they made their relationship Instagram official in August 2021.
When asked about her hopes for future relationships, Hough shared that she is focused on authenticity. She expressed her desire for a partner who aligns with her core values but emphasized that the most important thing is to be true to herself. “I want to live and vibrate as my most authentic self,” she said. “That’s what will attract the right person, rather than trying to create or force something I think I want.”
Hough’s reflections reveal her commitment to personal growth and the belief that life’s experiences, both joyful and painful, contribute to a richer, more meaningful existence.
