Michael Cera, Rachel Weisz, Colman Domingo, and other notable actors are set to lend their voices to Pedro Almodóvar’s upcoming audiobook, The Last Dream. The announcement, made on September 19, highlights the project’s impressive cast, showcasing a blend of talent that aims to honor the iconic filmmaker’s body of work.
Scheduled for release on September 24, the audiobook marks Almodóvar’s English-language debut, translated from Spanish by Frank Wynne. Joining Cera, Weisz, and Domingo as narrators are Norbert Leo Butz, Juan Diego Botto, and Taylour Paige.
At 74, Almodóvar describes The Last Dream as “a fragmentary autobiography, incomplete and a little cryptic.” The collection features a variety of his personal writings spanning from the late 1960s to the present, encompassing memoir, comedy, autofiction, pastiche, and gothic fiction. According to the press release, the audiobook promises to offer listeners a unique and immersive experience as it brings Almodóvar’s stories to life.
Renowned for a career that includes over two dozen films—such as Woman on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, All About My Mother, and Talk to Her—Almodóvar has garnered multiple prestigious accolades, including two Academy Awards, five BAFTA Awards, and the French Legion of Honour.
Looking ahead, Almodóvar’s next film, The Room Next Door, is slated for a December 2024 release, featuring stars Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore. At the New York City premiere of her film Problemista in February, Swinton shared insights with PEOPLE about collaborating with Almodóvar, describing the upcoming comedic drama as “a delicate film about adults navigating tricky issues of friendship.”
With The Last Dream, Almodóvar continues to push boundaries, inviting audiences to delve deeper into his personal and creative world.
