The cast of the highly anticipated film adaptation of Emily Henry’s bestselling novel People We Meet on Vacation has expanded significantly. Netflix announced on Wednesday that Jameela Jamil, Lukas Gage, Lucien Laviscount, and Sarah Catherine Hook are the latest additions to the cast.
Details about the specific roles these actors will play have not yet been disclosed. They join Tom Blyth and Emily Bader, who were previously announced as the leads in the film. Blyth, known for his role in The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, and Bader, star of My Lady Jane, will portray Alex and Poppy, respectively.
Emily Henry expressed her enthusiasm about the casting in August, stating she was “an anxious wreck” about the choice of actors. “I truly could not feel more confident that my readers and so many more people who don’t even know about the book are going to completely fall in love with Poppy and Alex,” Henry shared. She also noted her involvement in selecting Blyth and Bader, revealing, “I watched their chemistry read four times in 12 hours and I loved it more every single time.”
People We Meet on Vacation follows the story of Poppy, a spirited travel writer, and Alex, a reserved high school teacher. The narrative explores their annual week-long vacations together, which face a significant obstacle after a falling out. Poppy’s attempt to reconnect with Alex for one final trip forms the crux of the story.
The adaptation of People We Meet on Vacation is one of several Henry novels being brought to the screen. Screenwriter Yulin Kuang is also adapting Henry’s Beach Read for 20th Century Studios. Additionally, Book Lovers has been confirmed for a film adaptation, while Henry is penning the script for her latest novel, Funny Story. Happy Place has been optioned by Netflix for a series.
As of now, People We Meet on Vacation is the only Henry adaptation with a confirmed cast. The release date for the film has yet to be announced.
