Christina Aguilera and Sabrina Carpenter are igniting excitement with their upcoming musical collaboration, as evidenced by a playful social media video shared on September 18. In the clip, the two artists, who have generated considerable buzz, engage in a humorous exchange that highlights their growing friendship.
Carpenter, 25, playfully referred to Aguilera, 43, as her “mom” in the video. The pair, seated together with a live band in the background, lip-syncs to a soundbite of Kylie Jenner—who famously dressed as Aguilera for Halloween—discussing her mother, Kris. The humorous clip features Jenner’s voice saying, “I’m obsessed with my mom,” followed by a humorous back-and-forth about favorite children, with Carpenter showcasing Aguilera and declaring her the “favorite.”
Aguilera, known for her powerful voice and dynamic stage presence, captioned the video with the word “Obsessed,” underscoring her excitement about the collaboration.
This playful teaser precedes Aguilera’s special release commemorating the 25th anniversary of her 1999 debut album. Set for release on September 23, the anniversary project will feature newly recorded live versions of select tracks from the album as part of Spotify’s Anniversaries series. Joining Aguilera on this project are Sabrina Carpenter and Machine Gun Kelly, each contributing their unique touch to the reimagined tracks.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Aguilera expressed her enthusiasm for the project, stating, “I wanted to celebrate the 25th anniversary of my debut album in a way that brings together the past and present.” She continued, “I’ve always enjoyed reimagining my songs with different styles and audiences, as well as playing with sounds and arrangements that showcase how all music can be timeless.”
Released on August 24, 1999, Aguilera’s self-titled debut album soared to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and produced three chart-topping singles: “Genie in a Bottle,” “What a Girl Wants,” and “Come On Over Baby (All I Want Is You).”
