In a recently resurfaced 2011 interview, Taylor Swift spoke about her desire for a partner who could handle fame as easily as she does—a sentiment that seems prophetic now that she’s dating NFL star Travis Kelce.
At just 21, Swift shared with 60 Minutes how crucial it was for her to find someone whose comfort with public attention matched her own. “It’s heartbreaking when things click, but your comfort level with fame is so different from the person you’re dating,” Swift remarked. “I don’t care … It doesn’t matter to me who’s looking, but it does to some people.”
She also emphasized how a relationship with someone overly concerned about privacy wouldn’t work, saying, “It seems a little unnecessary to care that much about keeping people out.”
Fast forward more than a decade, and Swift, now 34, is dating Kelce, who seems perfectly at ease in the public eye. The couple has been spotted enjoying high-profile events, from the U.S. Open to the Super Bowl, and even low-key date nights in New York City. Their relationship has been met with enthusiasm from fans and media alike, with Kelce embracing the attention that comes with dating one of the world’s biggest pop stars.
During a September interview on CBS Mornings, Kelce reflected on his new level of fame, saying, “I have fun with it. It comes with the territory of wanting to do fun activities like this.” He added that his family, particularly his mother, is “having so much fun” with his rise in the spotlight.
As for why people are rooting for him, Kelce believes it’s because of his authenticity: “I hope it’s because they see I’m just a genuinely good person … I’d rather give everybody happiness and something to cheer about than otherwise.”
With Kelce by her side, it seems Swift’s long-ago wish for a fame-savvy partner has come true.
