Pop sensation Chappell Roan is preparing to make her MTV Video Music Awards debut in a standout fashion. Set to take the stage for her first live performance at the prestigious event, Roan has already revealed who she’ll be thanking if she clinches a coveted Moon Person trophy.
In an exclusive pre-show interview on the red carpet, the singer of “Pink Pony Club” expressed her gratitude toward her ex, hinting at a heartfelt shout-out in the event of her victory. “You got me here,” the 26-year-old artist told MTV, while striving to maintain composure. “I’m really trying not to cuss right now. Thank you to my ex. Thank you to, you know, I mean, the classics. The classics.”
For her VMAs debut, Roan made a striking impression with a medieval-inspired ensemble. Her look featured a sheer Y/Project gown, complemented by a mint green cape and thigh-high boots. She accessorized with a sword, metal wrist cuffs, a large cross necklace, and dramatic long nails, further enhanced by the presence of a knight-like companion.
Earlier in the evening, Roan’s red carpet experience took an unexpected turn. A clip circulating on social media shows the singer addressing a photographer with a pointed “shut the f— up” and further remarks, “You shut the f— up,” before adding, “Don’t. Not me, bitch!”
Roan, nominated for Best New Artist alongside Benson Boone, Gracie Abrams, Shaboozey, Teddy Swims, and Tyla, is also slated to deliver a performance during the ceremony. The star-studded lineup for the VMAs includes performances by Sabrina Carpenter, Camila Cabello, GloRilla, Rauw Alejandro, Anitta, Karol G, LL Cool J, Shawn Mendes, Halsey, Lenny Kravitz, Lisa, and Boone.
