Bradley Whitford, known for his role on “The West Wing,” has taken a sharp jab at actress Cheryl Hines for her perceived silence following her husband, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s, endorsement of former President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election.
In a pointed post on X (formerly Twitter), Whitford called out Hines, saying, “Hey @CherylHines, way to stay silent while your lunatic husband throws his support behind the adjudicated rapist who brags about stripping women of their fundamental rights.” The actor’s tweet was accompanied by a video of Trump boasting about his Supreme Court nominees’ role in overturning Roe v. Wade.
Whitford, a vocal Democrat and supporter of Vice President Kamala Harris after President Joe Biden’s exit from the 2024 race, is among the many celebrities who have publicly opposed Trump and his allies.
Kennedy, an Independent presidential candidate, announced on Friday that he was suspending his campaign and endorsing Trump. His decision was accompanied by a critique of the Democratic Party and media.
In response to Kennedy’s announcement, Hines, who is known for her role on HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” expressed gratitude to her husband’s supporters and advocated for unity. “I deeply respect the decision Bobby made to run on the principle of unity,” she wrote on X. “It has been an eye-opening, transformative, and endearing journey,” she added, emphasizing the importance of bridging divides between political parties.
Hines’ representatives have not responded to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
Kennedy’s endorsement of Trump has sparked significant backlash from his family, who have long been critical of his presidential aspirations. Following his announcement, Kennedy’s siblings issued a statement condemning his actions as a betrayal of family values.
Kennedy addressed the familial discord during an appearance on “Fox News Sunday,” acknowledging the tension within his family. “My family is at the center of the Democratic Party. I have members of my family that are working for the Biden administration,” he said. “I love my family, and we were raised to debate passionately and still love each other.” He emphasized that despite their disagreements, his family’s support for his campaign remains strong, asserting, “We all need to be able to disagree with each other and still love each other.”
