Diablo Cody has dropped intriguing hints about a possible collaboration with Jennifer Aniston for the highly anticipated reboot of the classic film “9 to 5.”
In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Cody, renowned for her Oscar-winning screenplay for Juno, expressed her admiration for Aniston, calling her “the coolest girl in the world.” Cody praised Aniston’s ability to “make anything happen” and lauded her not only for her beauty but also for her impressive aura.
Cody, who is known for her dynamic career in film, shared her enthusiasm for the project, revealing her eagerness to join the reboot. “They were looking for a writer, and I heard about it, and I really move on things,” she said. “I thought, ‘If I don’t do this, I’m going to regret it.’” She added that if she feels envious of someone else taking the job, it’s a sign she should seize the opportunity herself.
Cody’s passion for the original film played a significant role in her decision to get involved. “It’s definitely a pinch-me moment to be collaborating with Jennifer and Kristin Hahn,” she noted. Cody explained that her genuine love for the original movie was a key factor in her hiring as the screenwriter, emphasizing that her involvement goes beyond just being a “hired gun.”
Reflecting on her personal connection to the story, Cody mentioned her past experience working in a corporate environment. “Many years ago, I was a corporate 9 to 5 girl,” she said. “So, I had to call upon that era in my life to write.” She believes that a successful reboot should both “pay homage to the material” and “break new ground.”
While Cody acknowledged that she is somewhat limited in what she can reveal about the project, she did hint at a shift in focus from the original film’s “battle-of-the-sexes” theme. “Now, I feel like most of the conflict in the workplace is generational,” she said, contrasting the experiences of Gen Z with those of long-standing employees.
Fans of both Cody and Aniston will undoubtedly be watching closely as this exciting project develops.
