Meryl Streep and Martin Short reunited on the red carpet at the premiere of “Only Murders in the Building” Season 4, held at the Paramount Lot in Los Angeles on August 22. Their appearance together comes after months of speculation surrounding their relationship.
At the event, Streep dazzled in a black and white printed Stella McCartney dress, complemented by a wide belt, slip-on flats, and a white clutch, all styled by Micaela Erlanger. Short opted for a timeless black suit paired with a burgundy tie adorned with grey patterns.
The reunion follows a wave of rumors that surfaced in January, when the duo appeared particularly close at the Golden Globes. In response, Short’s representative clarified to PEOPLE that the two are “just very good friends, nothing more.” Short reiterated this sentiment on Bill Maher’s podcast, emphasizing that their bond remains platonic.
In May, Short addressed the public’s fascination with his relationship with Streep, who had been separated from her husband Don Gummer since 2018. “It’s always interesting,” Short said regarding the attention. “Show business relationships and speculations are part of the game.”
Short admitted to feeling unusually nervous before filming scenes with Streep for Season 3. “I remember driving to work and thinking, ‘Gee, this is odd. I’m a little bit nervous. Oh, of course! I’m going to do a two-person scene with Meryl,’” he recalled. However, his apprehension quickly faded as he found the set to be “very, very, very loose and fun-filled.”
Short praised the working environment on the show, attributing the positive atmosphere to the leadership of Steve Martin and Selena Gomez. “Everyone works in joy and happiness because we’re lucky people,” Short concluded.
