Country music icon Willie Nelson is set to release his 76th studio album, “Last Leaf on the Tree,” in collaboration with his youngest son, Micah Nelson. Scheduled to debut on November 1, the album marks another milestone in the 91-year-old legend’s illustrious career.
Micah Nelson, who not only produced the album but also contributed his musical skills, has played a significant role in shaping the project. The album features a blend of original compositions by Willie Nelson, along with a selection of covers from renowned artists including Warren Zevon, Nina Simone, Keith Richards, Sunny War, The Flaming Lips, and Tom Waits.
In addition to his production work, Micah Nelson showcases his musical versatility, performing on various instruments ranging from guitar to piano. Describing his production style, Micah likened it to a sculptor’s technique—building the tracks layer by layer and refining them gradually.
The release comes on the heels of Willie Nelson’s return to performing after an illness led him to miss several dates on his Outlaw Music Festival Tour. Nelson’s recovery and subsequent performance on July 4th marked a triumphant return to the stage.
Willie Nelson, who shares Micah with his wife Annie D’Angelo, has a large family, including seven other children: Renee Butts, Lana Nelson Fowler, Susie Nelson, William “Billy” Hugh Nelson Jr., Paula Carlene Nelson, Amy Lee Nelson, and Lukas Autry Nelson. His son Billy passed away in 1991, and Renee Butts died in 2017.
