ESPN is undergoing significant staff changes as it announces the departure of Sam Ponder, the host of “Sunday NFL Countdown.” The decision, which comes on the heels of Robert Griffin III’s dismissal, marks another shift in the network’s lineup.
According to Andrew Marchand of The Athletic, ESPN has officially terminated Ponder’s contract. Ponder, who joined ESPN in 2006, has held various roles within the network over the years.
With the 2024 NFL season set to kick off in just 24 days, the network has yet to name a replacement for Ponder as the host of its Sunday morning NFL pregame show. Marchand reports that the decision to part ways with Ponder was driven by financial considerations.
