Despite collaborations with prominent artists like Lil Yachty, Quavo, Lil Durk, and Future, Mustard’s fourth album sold only 18,000 units in its first week—a figure many in the industry are labeling a commercial failure. The criticism has been palpable, with fans and critics alike sharing their thoughts on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. In response to the backlash, DJ Mustard dismissed album sales as a relevant metric, controversially stating, “Album sales are a form of [White] supremacy you ni**as racist.”
One fan’s comment struck a nerve, suggesting that DJ Mustard would be celebrating sales if the album had performed well. This prompted Mustard to embark on a brief, but intense, rant. He accused Drake of undermining his release by influencing the timing of another album drop. “Drake is the Malcolm X of white people and @Akademiks make sure you post @GordoSZN first week since Drake thought he did a thing with making him drop on the same day as me,” Mustard wrote. This was in reference to rumors that Drake encouraged Gordo to release his album “DIAMANTE,” which features two tracks with Drake, on the same day as “Faith of a Mustard Seed.”
