The lawsuit, filed on July 21, claims that Chris Brown and his entourage, including Dallas rapper Yella Beezy, were involved in the attack that occurred after the concert on July 20. Both artists are named as defendants in the legal action.
In separate Zoom interviews with WFAA, Yella Beezy’s attorney, Daryl K. Washington, and the plaintiffs’ attorney, Tony Buzbee, shared their perspectives on the case.
“Clearly, this was a lawsuit that was filed without doing the due diligence that is required,” Washington stated, asserting his client’s innocence. He emphasized that while Yella Beezy attended the concert, he had no involvement in the alleged assault. “When you have things that happen this fast it makes you wonder what’s the motivation behind it,” Washington added, noting the swift filing of the lawsuit, which came just a day after the concert.
Washington suggested that the lawsuit appeared premeditated, ready to be filed with minor adjustments. “This appeared to be a lawsuit that was already drafted and was just waiting to fill in some of the blanks,” he told WFAA.
Tony Buzbee, a renowned attorney from Houston representing the plaintiffs, dismissed Washington’s remarks. “That’s about as ridiculous — you know who you’re talking to, right?” Buzbee retorted, referencing his high-profile legal background, including representation of the Texas governor and attorney general. Buzbee stressed his careful consideration in filing lawsuits, reflecting his clients’ clarity on who assaulted them. “You should never go say things to the media when you don’t know what you’re talking about,” he responded to Washington’s comments.
Buzbee claimed to have gathered around 10 witness statements and surveillance footage supporting the plaintiffs’ case, although he declined to share the evidence publicly. “The video shows these four men were attacked by a large group of people, directed by Chris Brown,” he stated.
Washington maintained that Yella Beezy would not be implicated in any evidence presented because he did not participate in the alleged assault. He also mentioned that Yella Beezy might pursue legal action in response to the claims. “We’re gonna prove and we’re gonna show the claims filed against my client are frivolous,” Washington asserted.
As of now, no criminal charges have been filed in connection with the incident. The Fort Worth Police Department is investigating and has called for any witnesses to come forwar
