Kim Kardashian‘s brief marriage to Kris Humphries in 2011 might be remembered for its opulence, but according to her mother, Kris Jenner, it wasn’t a profitable venture. During a 2011 interview with Johnjay and Rich, Jenner, now 68, clarified that her daughter did not earn money from the wedding, which ended in divorce just 72 days later. She emphasized that it was a “difficult decision” for Kim to file for divorce.

Despite reports from The Hollywood Reporter indicating that Kardashian received $1.5 million from PEOPLE magazine for the wedding photos, between $30,000 and $100,000 from Us Weekly for honeymoon photos, and $100,000 from OK! Magazine for bridal shower snaps, Jenner denied these claims. She stated, “She [Kim] didn’t make a dime off of this wedding. She actually spent millions of dollars on this wedding, so it’s not something that she thought would ever not be happily ever after.”

Jenner also expressed gratitude towards the E! Network, which aired the wedding as a special titled “Kim’s Fairytale Wedding: A Kardashian Event.” She noted, “We have the most amazing network in the world. They feel so bad for Kim as a person. This is about a human being. It’s not about necessarily a television show. They’ve been so supportive and so wonderful to us.”

Kardashian and Humphries were introduced by NBA player Jordan Farmar and began dating in December 2010. The couple got engaged after six months, and their engagement, wedding, and subsequent marital issues were all featured on “Keeping Up with the Kardashians.” Despite their separation 72 days post-wedding, their marriage legally lasted from 2011 to 2013.

Cracks in their marriage started showing by October 2011, leading Kardashian to file for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences.” Humphries, now 39, has largely remained silent about the marriage and divorce, despite significant media scrutiny.

Reflecting on the situation, Jenner explained how challenging it was for her daughter to end the marriage. “Kim had to make a very difficult decision. But she needed to do that on her own. You know, she’s not 5 years old. She’s a 30-year-old woman who definitely needs my support right now. [But] whatever her decision was at the time, I’m just here to support her as her mom and make sure she’s okay today.”

Jenner added, “[Kim’s] not the first person in the world to get a divorce or have something like this happen to [her], and she won’t be the last. She just happens to be a very public person with a couple of television shows on the air, so it makes it bigger than life.”
