It continues to be a rough summer for rapper Drake, who faced yet another disappointment this week.
Drake, a proud Canadian, revealed on Instagram that he had bet $300,000 on Canada to defeat Argentina in the Copa America semifinal on Tuesday. His confidence in his home team, however, did not pay off. Argentina triumphed over Canada with a decisive 2-0 victory, securing their spot in Sunday’s Copa America final against the winner of the Uruguay-Colombia semifinal.
Following the match, Argentina’s official team page on X (formerly Twitter) did not miss the chance to rub salt in the wound. They posted a celebratory message aimed directly at Drake, stating, “Not like us, not with us.” This phrase was prominently featured in an image graphic accompanying the post.

“Not Like Us” is also the title of a well-known diss track by Kendrick Lamar targeting Drake. This year, the two rappers engaged in a series of musical feuds, but “Not Like Us” emerged as the most commercially successful diss track, reaching No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. The track, widely perceived as a knockout punch to Drake, cemented Lamar as the victor in their ongoing rivalry.
Drake’s bet on Canada was seen as overly optimistic from the start. Argentina, led by the legendary Lionel Messi, won the last Copa America tournament in 2021 and followed it with a World Cup victory in 2022. Canada posed little challenge on Tuesday, with Argentina securing an early lead through Julian Alvarez’s goal in the 22nd minute and Messi adding a second in the 51st minute to seal the win.
This isn’t the first time Drake has suffered from ill-fated bets. Known for his gambling losses, Drake added this latest setback to his list. Despite his national pride, betting against a formidable team like Argentina, known for their ruthless trolling of opponents, proved to be a costly mistake.
