Braison Cyrus, along with his father Billy Ray Cyrus and sister Noah Cyrus, has contributed to a charity single titled “Oh What a Dream We Had.” The song benefits the Prevent Cancer Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to cancer research, education, and advocacy. Braison’s involvement in this project stems from personal experiences with cancer. His grandfather, Ron Cyrus, passed away from lung cancer in 2006, and a close friend’s daughter was diagnosed with lymphoma at a young age.
Braison believes that cancer affects nearly everyone in some way. He felt it was natural to involve his family in the project. “I think it’s almost impossible to find somebody who hasn’t been affected by cancer in some way,” he explained. Billy Ray, 63, and Noah, 25, join a star-studded lineup including Billy Idol, Il Divo, and Richard Marx on the song.
The music video for “Oh What a Dream We Had” was released in March and has garnered over 2.9 million views. Braison recorded his father’s vocals at home, while Noah contributed her part in a studio. The cause is deeply personal for Braison, who remembers his grandfather fondly. “He was a brilliant guy, the kindest person to people and animals,” Braison said.
As a singer-songwriter and producer, Braison aims to use his platform to highlight important issues. “I want more people to say, hey, we’ve all been touched by this tragedy in some way and we can come together and share in that grief and in that hope that things can get better,” he noted.
In addition to this charity single, Braison is working on various music projects. He co-wrote a song for Noah titled “Don’t Put It All on Me,” which she released in March as a duet with Fleet Foxes. Braison also produced Billy Ray’s upcoming album, which he considers one of his career highlights. “It’s probably one of my favorite things I’ve worked on in my career thus far,” he said. Braison plans to release more solo music in the future.
