Cher Remembers Val Kilmer: Nicknames And Enduring Friendship

by Coco

Cher recently shared memories of her relationship with the late actor Val Kilmer, who passed away on April 1 at the age of 65. The two dated in the early 1980s after meeting at a birthday party.

During their time together, Cher and Kilmer used special nicknames for each other. “He never called me Cher; he always called me Ethel,” Cher explained. They also used the nicknames “Sid and Ethel” and “Vallus Maximus and Cherus Reprimandus.” These nicknames were used so they wouldn’t have to shout each other’s real names.

Cher described their relationship as starting as a friendship. “We became friends because we laughed at the same things constantly,” she said. Over time, their friendship blossomed into romance. However, their relationship was intense, and they eventually parted ways due to their strong personalities. Despite this, they remained close friends.

After Kilmer was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2015, Cher was a significant source of support. He even stayed in her guest home during his health struggles. Cher praised Kilmer as “funny” and a “pain in the ass” in a tribute after his death, highlighting his bravery during his illness.

In her tribute, Cher remembered Kilmer fondly, noting that he was “brilliant” and “brave” during his health challenges. Despite their breakup, their friendship endured, a testament to the strong bond they shared.
