Why Lady Gaga Knew Michael Polansky Was ‘the One’ After Just One Question

For Lady Gaga, it wasn’t fame, fortune, or charisma that first won her heart — it was something far simpler and more meaningful.

During a conversation with The Interview podcast from The New York Times on March 8, the “Abracadabra” singer shared the wholesome quality that made her realize Michael Polansky was special.

“From the moment that I met Michael, he had the warmest and kindest disposition of maybe anyone I had ever met,” Gaga, 38, revealed. “Yes, he was impressive, but what I cared about most was that he wanted to know about my family.”

The emotional moment brought Gaga to tears as she described how Polansky, 46, stood out from others she had dated in the past.

“I knew Michael was genuine because he wanted to be my friend,” she added. “He didn’t want to do all the things other people wanted. He wanted to take walks with me. He took me rock climbing.”

Polansky’s kindness and grounded nature brought a sense of comfort to Gaga, especially as she navigated her ongoing struggles with chronic pain.

“He inspired me to have more hope about my pain condition,” she shared. “I guess I know Michael is genuine because he’s my friend.”

For Gaga, finding friendship in a relationship was a rare and deeply meaningful experience.

“It was really hard not having that,” she admitted. “Being real friends with someone is special. You can sit quietly in a room, take long walks, or just talk about your family — that’s what matters.”

The Bad Romance hitmaker reflected on how difficult it had been to form meaningful connections in her life, calling her relationship with Polansky “a blessing.”

“I was around a lot of transactional relationships before,” she explained. “Meeting someone who wasn’t like that was a whole new world for me.”

The couple first went public after being spotted kissing at a New Year’s Eve party in Las Vegas in 2020. Shortly after, they were seen enjoying a PDA-filled weekend together during Super Bowl festivities in Miami.

In April 2024, rumors of an engagement swirled after Gaga was spotted wearing a dazzling diamond ring on that finger. Months later, she confirmed their engagement when she called Polansky her “fiancé” at the Paris Olympics.

Gaga later revealed that she knew from the start what she wanted — and wasn’t afraid to ask for it.

“Michael flew to Vegas to take me on our first date,” Gaga recalled in a chat with Good Morning America’s Michael Strahan. “Before we even sat down, I asked him, ‘Do you want marriage and kids?’ He said, ‘Yeah, I do.’ And I said, ‘Okay, great. Do you want some champagne?’ And he said, ‘Sure.'”

It’s clear that for Gaga, the magic of her relationship with Polansky wasn’t just about romance — it was built on friendship, authenticity, and a shared vision for the future.
