Morgan Wallen Reflects on His Past and Fatherhood in New Song Dedicated to Son Indigo

Morgan Wallen is opening up like never before in his latest release, a heartfelt track titled “Superman,” inspired by his son, Indigo Wilder, whom he shares with ex Katie “KT” Smith. The country star, 31, took to Instagram on February 24 to share a sneak peek of the emotional song, revealing that it’s been a long time coming for him to write something truly meaningful for his 4-year-old son.

“Been trying for a long time to write a song I loved to my son. None of them ever feel good enough because of how perfect I want something like this to be,” Wallen captioned the post. “And not saying this is perfect, but I am very proud of it. Here is a clip, it’s called ‘Superman.’”

The song explores Wallen’s journey of self-reflection, touching on his personal struggles, including his infamous April arrest. In the track, the singer compares his battles to those of Superman, showcasing his vulnerabilities and imperfections.

“One day you’re gonna see my mugshot / From a night when I got a little too drunk,” Wallen sings in the emotional ballad. “Hear a song about a girl I lost / From the times that I just wouldn’t grow up.”

In another powerful moment, Wallen sings about his ongoing battle with alcohol, likening it to Superman’s kryptonite. “Don’t always know my wrongs from right / Sometimes I’m my own worst enemy,” he confesses, before pledging to always try his best for his son. “But you know for you I’ll always try / I do the best I can / But Superman is still just a man sometimes.”

The song is an intimate look into Wallen’s personal life, and fans are eagerly awaiting to see if it will make the cut for his upcoming fourth album, I’m the Problem, set to be released this year.

While Superman may not yet have a confirmed place on the album, Wallen has been making waves with recent releases like “Smile,” “Lies Lies Lies,” and “Love Somebody.” Fans can also look forward to his summer tour, which will hit 10 cities starting in June.

As for Wallen’s fatherhood journey, he has often shared his gratitude for raising Indie alongside Smith. In a 2021 interview with PEOPLE, he said, “We’re doing our best to figure it out, just trying to do the best we can with the situation.” He also added that the most important thing is his son’s happiness and health, noting, “He’s incredible.”

When Wallen first announced his son’s birth in July 2020, he made a promise to Indie, saying, “I’ll always protect you and do my best to be an example of a good, godly man just like my daddy was for me.”
