Nikki Glaser, the comedian and self-proclaimed Taylor Swift superfan, has a unique approach to crossing paths with her idol at star-studded events: she avoids her entirely. Despite spending nearly $100,000 to attend 22 Eras Tour shows, Glaser revealed on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast that she refuses to approach Swift at high-profile gatherings, even if they’re in the same room.
“It’s almost rude, what I do when I’m in the same room as Taylor Swift because I won’t even look her way,” Glaser confessed during the February 24 episode. The 40-year-old comedian, who was nominated for Best Comedy Album at the 2025 Grammys for Someday You’ll Die, explained her reasoning with a mix of humor and genuine admiration.
“Everyone wants a piece,” Glaser said, referencing the constant attention Swift receives at events. “I will never be the one to be like, ‘Excuse me’ — ever. There’s no way that she’s dying for that on a night like this where everyone’s doing it. And of course, she would be so nice. I know exactly how it would go down.”
Glaser, who lost the Grammy to Dave Chappelle’s The Dreamer, added that she doesn’t want to disrupt Swift’s creative energy. “I just don’t want to take someone’s energy away that I require their energy to be put into making great music,” she said. “That’s what I don’t want, her to make a less great song ‘cause she had to be like, ‘Nice to meet you,’ and hold me as I’m crying. No, we don’t need that. I can’t bother her.”
The FBoy Island host, who also emceed the 2025 Golden Globes, shared that her perspective on celebrity events has shifted over time. “I generally after awards shows get pretty depressed no matter what happens because I’m around all these famous people that I put on a pedestal, and I kind of see the façade of it all and the desperation,” she admitted.
Glaser painted a vivid picture of the behind-the-scenes reality of Hollywood’s biggest nights: “They’re all wearing uncomfortable clothes and have the fake hair in, and I’m like, we’re all clamoring to be noticed and a little bit disappointed when we’re not. It makes me a little bit sad, ‘cause I’m like, no matter how big you get, you kind of worry about who’s in the room, who’s looking at you, where you’re seated. I kind of go into a depression afterward.”
While Swift is her ultimate “don’t approach” celebrity, Glaser also opened up about her insecurities at the Grammys, despite being nominated. “I feel like I don’t belong there. I don’t want people even noticing me to go like, ‘Why is she here?’ Even though I was nominated for a Grammy. But I didn’t win,” she said.
Glaser revealed that she was “so mad” she didn’t win, not just for the accolade but for the validation it would bring. “I wanted to bring my Grammy to hold it [and] be like, ‘I belong.’ I just wanted to have a reason to be there,” she explained.
However, the night wasn’t without its highlights. Glaser shared that Olivia Rodrigo, one of her favorite artists, approached her to say, “Oh my God, I love you.” Glaser described the moment as “the biggest gift of my life,” proving that even in a room full of A-listers, a little fan love can go a long way.
For now, though, Glaser’s strategy remains clear: admire Taylor Swift from afar and let the music do the talking. After all, as she put it, “I can’t bother her.”
