Country singer Sam Hunt was arrested in Tennessee for speeding and violating an interlock device. The 40-year-old artist was taken into custody on January 20 but was released the same day after posting a $1,500 bond.
A representative for Hunt confirmed to TMZ that the singer will not face criminal charges for the incident. However, he will pay a fine for the speeding violation.
This arrest comes more than five years after Hunt’s previous legal troubles. In November 2019, he was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) after going the wrong way on a Nashville road.
At the time, police noted that Hunt had difficulty staying in his lane and showed signs of intoxication, including bloodshot eyes and the smell of alcohol. His blood alcohol level was recorded at .173, more than double the legal limit of .08. Hunt later pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor DUI charges in August 2021 and was sentenced to nearly a year in jail, though he was released on a $2,500 bond shortly after the 2019 arrest.
Following the 2019 incident, Hunt publicly apologized on social media. He admitted to making a “poor and selfish decision” by driving after drinking and vowed it would not happen again.
Hunt, a Grammy-nominated artist, is best known for hits like “Take Your Time,” “House Party,” and “Body Like a Back Road.” His personal life has also seen its share of ups and downs. He married Hannah Lee Fowler in 2017 after nearly a decade of an on-and-off relationship. Fowler inspired much of Hunt’s Montevallo album.
The couple faced a brief separation in 2022, during which Fowler filed for divorce, citing “inappropriate marital conduct” and “adultery.” However, they reconciled and withdrew the divorce papers. They now have two children, Lucy Louise and Lowry Lee, and announced in November 2024 that they are expecting their third child.
Hunt’s recent arrest adds to his history of legal issues, though his team has assured the public that he will address the speeding ticket and move forward.
