Saweetie Reflects On Past Relationships, Focuses On Her Career Moving Forward

In a new cover story interview with InStyle, released on February 5, 2025, the “My Type” rapper shared her evolved perspective on relationships and explained why she is now dedicated to “dating her career.”

“When I reflect on certain points in my career, I did allow myself to get slightly distracted,” Saweetie, 31, confessed. The rapper previously dated Migos member Quavo from 2018 to 2021. She was also seen in 2023 sharing a romantic moment with rapper YG during a getaway in Cabo San Lucas.

However, Saweetie now views those experiences as lessons. “I’m thankful for those lessons because they’ve made me wiser,” she said.

As she continues to focus on her career, Saweetie is clear about her priorities. “Anything that may be trying to compete with my goals, with my ambitions, with my priorities… I no longer second-guess my career, and if you can’t understand it, then respectfully, get out of my way,” she declared.

Reflecting on 2021, when she went through a public breakup with Quavo, Saweetie described the year as “traumatic” and admitted she wanted a fresh start. “I thought life would get better, but girl, life just kept life-ing,” she said. “Surrendering to God and the universe has actually gotten me places.”

Saweetie acknowledged that she once tried to control everything in her life. “I used to be a control freak. I used to try to micromanage everything. I think we resort to micromanaging everything because we feel helpless,” she explained.

In September 2022, Saweetie spoke openly about her breakup with Quavo during an episode of Revolt TV’s Caresha Please. She admitted that although they had “differences,” the breakup was still difficult. “I thought we was gonna spend the rest of our lives together. With him, I knew it was the one. It was different,” she said.

Later in 2022, Saweetie released an EP titled The Single Life, reflecting on her experiences as a single woman. She explained that the project was “my testimony as a single woman and what I’ve been through, the good and the bad.” Saweetie added that much of her private love life had been publicized, and she felt it was time to speak up through her music. “I think the best way to respond to my perception is through the music, ’cause honestly, if you don’t know me personally, I’m not gonna have a personal conversation online,” she stated.
