Doechii’s beauty choice is making waves once again. After wearing visible face tape at the 2025 Grammys, the rapper is explaining why she chooses this bold look.
The musician, who won her first Grammy for Best Rap Album, has previously shared her use of face tape in a TikTok video. In the post, she addressed the buzz, writing, “The face tapes are there on purpose because… it’s c—.”
While some online users questioned her appearance, face tape is not a new trend. According to Dr. Rukmini Rednam, a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon, face tape has long been used to temporarily lift skin or change facial angles. “It’s meant to be hidden, giving the illusion of a surgical procedure without actually undergoing one,” she explained.
Doechii’s choice to wear visible face tape is a modern twist on the traditional use of the cosmetic. Dr. Rednam believes this reflects a cultural shift toward openness in beauty. “In the past, people were secretive about cosmetic procedures due to fear of judgment,” she said. “Now, celebrities like Doechii are embracing these products openly, without shame.”
The popularity of face tape is also tied to a rise in facelifts, particularly among younger people. Dr. Akshay Sanan, a board-certified plastic surgeon, noted that face tape offers an affordable and pain-free option for achieving the look of a brow lift or facelift, without the commitment. “It’s also a gateway to more permanent treatments like Botox or fillers,” he said.
Dr. Prem Tripathi, a board-certified facial plastic surgeon, explained that face tape may help train facial muscles over time, though it has not been proven to offer long-term benefits. “It’s cheaper than Botox and mimics the effects, but there’s no solid evidence it works long-term unless people are consistently using it,” he added.
With face tape gaining traction, especially among those seeking budget-friendly alternatives to cosmetic surgery, Doechii’s bold choice is just one example of how beauty trends continue to evolve.
