The first cast members for the upcoming third installment of the popular whodunnit series, A Knives Out Mystery, have been revealed. Josh O’Connor from The Challengers and Cailee Spaeny from Priscilla are set to join Daniel Craig, who will reprise his role as detective Benoit Blanc in the third Netflix film of the murder mystery franchise, titled Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.
Rian Johnson, returning as the scriptwriter, recently unveiled the new movie’s title on Twitter, stating: “The next Benoit Blanc mystery, the follow-up to Knives Out and Glass Onion, is called Wake Up Dead Man.”
Netflix has also confirmed Craig’s return and the sequel title on its Tudum site, following Johnson’s announcement.
The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that O’Connor and Spaeny would join Craig. O’Connor, known for his role in The Challengers and The Crown, and Spaeny, from Priscilla and A24’s Civil War, are both coming off successful breakout performances.
Although no further plot or casting details have been revealed, reports suggest that Lindsay Lohan and Tom Hardy are in talks to join the film. Netflix has been contacted for comment.
The second installment of the Knives Out Mystery ended with a murder mystery party gone wrong, leading to the death of Duke Cody and the exposure of the killer as Miles, a tech billionaire mogul.
After the success of the first Knives Out movie, Johnson sold the rights to two future installments to Netflix. The second installment featured Kate Hudson, Jessica Henwick, and Madelyn Cline.
Filming for the new movie is set to commence this summer.
