Ciara’s iconic debut album Goodies turned 20 this September, and its 20th-anniversary vinyl reissue has caused quite a stir online. Fans were left in disbelief when they discovered an unexpected glitch during one of the album’s biggest hits. A TikTok trend has been circulating where listeners point out a mysterious sound effect—reminiscent of a Windows notification—playing during the track “1, 2 Step,” featuring Missy Elliott.
“My jaw dropped… I thought it was my laptop,” one fan exclaimed, recalling the moment they heard the strange beep. “Then I remembered I don’t even have a laptop in my room!” Another fan chimed in with a video, showing the needle on the bright pink vinyl creating the sound that’s so unmistakably tied to receiving a computer alert.
A third TikTok user humorously confronted the blip, writing, “Ciara babes, what is this??? How did this make it past quality control? ” Though they added a disclaimer about using Bluetooth speakers, the confusion was palpable. “Before you come for me and my Bluetooth speaker, yes, I know the quality is poorer via Bluetooth,” they clarified, “but I don’t have space for wired speakers.”
In another video, a fan jokingly lamented the loss of a “LimeWire exclusive rare Windows notification Ciara Goodies vinyl,” adding, “This is TRUE Y2K.” The nostalgic blend of early 2000s pop and glitchy tech was definitely a unique Easter egg, and fans were quick to embrace it.
Despite the mix-up, there was no comment from Ciara’s record label, Sony Music, when approached for clarification. It seems that the glitch has only amplified the hype around the anniversary edition, making it even more of a collector’s item.
Ciara, now 39, originally dropped Goodies on September 27, 2004. The album quickly climbed the charts, peaking at No. 3 on the Billboard 200. It also earned the artist two Grammy nominations for Best New Artist and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for the infectious “1, 2 Step”—a track that remains one of her husband, Russell Wilson’s, favorites. The anniversary edition of Goodies includes 12 of its original tracks, along with bonus songs like “Crazy,” “Represent Me,” and a remix of the title track by Dipha Barus. However, the version omits “Next to You,” the collaboration with R. Kelly.
To celebrate the milestone, Ciara went full circle by recreating her album cover in June, donning a pink sweatshirt to commemorate her younger self. “20 Years later. Still CiCi. Happy 20th Anniversary Goodies!,” she posted on Instagram, paying homage to the past while keeping her spirit alive. The nostalgia didn’t stop there. During Missy Elliott’s Out of This World tour stop in Atlanta in July, Ciara took to the stage to celebrate the album’s impact on her life and career. “I will forever cherish moments like this! 20th Anniversary of Goodies Album celebration right here, on stage, in my hometown of Atlanta!” she shared on social media, expressing gratitude for the journey that helped shape her success.
It seems Ciara’s Goodies album has not only shaped the soundscape of pop music two decades ago, but it’s also giving fans an unforgettable anniversary celebration filled with playful glitches and cherished memories.
